Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Image
After reading through all of the stories, there were many stories that stood out more than the others. I really enjoyed reading  The Foolish, Timid Rabbit ,  The Cunning Crane and The Crab , and  Goblin City . In all three of the stories, one or more of the characters are being deceived because they are not very observant of their surroundings.  I really liked the moral lesson of The Foolish, Timid Rabbit because it is relatable. The lesson of this story is to think for yourself before believing what others say because not all rumors are true. It sucks to say this but I am a victim of believing rumors right off the bat. It's crazy how rumors can spread so fast like the rumor in the story. On another note, I liked how the author used animals instead of people, too! I feel like it is easier to name an animal instead of using a name in stories, but that might just be me.  Illustration  by W. Robinson My favorite story was The Cunning Crane and The Crab because of the le

Week 2 Reading Overview

Out of the two Ramayana options, I chose to go with the Public Domain Edition because it is free and if it is free, it is me! There are other reasons why I chose this option over Narayana's Ramayana as well. One, I liked how you audio recorded the reading, so whenever I am lazy and I don't want to read, I can listen to the recording. This option is online as well, which means that I don't have to go to campus as often. The comics that caught my attention are  Ancestors of Rama  and  Shiva Parvati . In both of the comics, the characters are being tested, but in different ways. I could relate to these stories because I tend to test people to see if they are trustworthy or not. I also like the summary of the comics, too. It draws me in and I would like to continue to read them later on. From the India Video Playlist,  Harry Potter Meets Hindu Mythology | EPIFIED  caught my attention immediately because I used to love watching Harry Potter movies as a kid. After watching

Time Strategies

Image
(Feelings When You're Running Out of Time. Web source: Max Pixel ) The first article that caught my eye was  The Psychology of Checklists  by Lauren Marchese because I love psychology. I decided to pick that one to learn more about the psychology side of time management. This article was very helpful because I didn't realize dopamine was released when you complete a small task. I now know that I should be setting smaller goals to achieve instead of big ones that I know I will dread.  The second article I chose was  3 Steps to Recapture Time  by Joynicole Martinez. This article was also helpful because Martinez introduced the idea of using the 1st 15 minutes of each day to plan out your tasks. I usually don't plan out my tasks before the end of each day and I get really lazy at that point. I will start using her idea as of now! She also mentioned the use of saying no and I have a really hard time saying no to people at times because I don't want to seem like I&#

Technology

Image
(Technology vs. Humanity. Web source:  Flickr ) The only two technology tools I am familiar with is Blogger and the graphics creator, Canva. I am only familiar with Blogger because of this class, otherwise, I wouldn't be. Then as for Canva, we use this application to create graphics for the sorority I am in. However, I would like to become more familiar with the other tools this semester! Oh wait, I didn't read through your post clearly and missed some of the tools. I have used Pinterest numerous times to save different outfits, food recipes, room inspirations, etc. I can't wait to learn about all of the other technology tools. I have never taken a class like this one before. I have never blogged in my entire life, so this is a new experience for me! In all of my other classes, there is always a lot of work and studying. I mean, this class has a big workload but I am enjoying the assignments while doing it, instead of dreading it, which is why I really like this cl

Assignments

Image
I am honestly most excited about storytelling assignments and the semester-long project this semester! I wonder what kind of stories I will make up because in certain situations, I plan out different scenarios in my head frequently. I always think of hypotheticals, too. Sometimes, it will get to me because I make mistakes and dwell on them, then ask myself, "what if this happened instead?"  I was very intrigued with this class after many recommendations from my friends. They really liked how the class was set up and how you could work at your own pace basically. After doing most of the orientation week assignments, I found myself to like this class even more. The set up is very different from my other classes, even the online ones I have taken before. I love how you could miss some assignments and make it up with extra credit. This is especially beneficial to me since I am taking many harder classes this year. I do not want to stress myself out with more work because usual

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset

Image
(Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset. Web source:  Flickr ) I have heard about growth mindset before this class and I have always felt very indifferent about it. I still do but I might change my opinion after this semester, so we will see! Academic wise, sometimes I work hard but my efforts are never seen and it saddens me because I put so much work into it and get nothing out. Maybe I just need to try harder, who knows? However, when I did cross country and kept pushing myself, I saw major improvements. There are other instances where I either improved or saw no change; therefore, I have never felt one way or the other about growth mindset. Someone please change my opinion! I would love to learn more about this topic this semester!

Introduction: A Little About Me aka AMORE

Hello everyone, my name is Tracy! My major is chemical bioscience with a minor in psychology and concentration in pre-PA. I know... it sounds tough and people are always shocked when I tell them, but it is honestly not that bad! Yes... there are times where I am drowning in the schoolwork, but overall, I like the classes I have to take for this major. Well, except Human Anatomy. That class has got to be the hardest class on campus. I believe it is harder than organic chemistry! Don't believe it? Take it and see for yourself. Just kidding, don't suffer like I did. Personal picture of this view in Baltimore; photo from May 2019. School is in session again and I am glad to be back, but at the same time, I am not. I'm missing summer a little extra this year because I had so much free time to travel and see people I couldn't see during the school year. This summer, I traveled to Baltimore for a convention with my sorority, took numerous trips to different parts of Tex

Storybook Favorites

Happily Ever Whatever by Ashley Cornett was the first storybook that caught my attention! The title pulled me in and the introduction got me to read through the entire storybook. I somewhat had an inkling of what the storybook was going to be about because of the picture Ashley added to her introduction. Ashley wrote about princesses and their happily ever after stories; however, she added in a little twist to the stories. Every story I read through reminded me of Disney movies and made it very nostalgic for me. The general storyline was kept the same as the movies, but there were some differences to make her story truly unique. https://sites.google.com/site/happilyeverwhatever/introduction Character Therapy: Healing in Stories by Kim Burns was the second storybook I was interested in. After I finished reading through Kim’s introduction, I wanted to continue to read because of how the stories were going to be set up. I was also wondering if I could relate to any of the char

One of my Favorite Places: Colorado

Image
What is my favorite place? I could go with Cancun, but... it was so hot over there when I went. I could also go with Texas but it is like my second home there. I had many other options but Colorado would have to be my favorite place. I have only been there twice in my entire lifetime and I absolutely loved it there! Well... except when it's all snowy and I have to drive... Colorado Springs, Colorado . In March 2018, I visited Colorado Springs with a couple of my friends for the first time. We left really late; therefore, we didn't arrive until night time. I honestly didn't realize we would wake up to seeing mountains! It's pretty fascinating that Coloradan's wake up and see mountains everyday because we definitely don't see that in Oklahoma.  During my trip, we visited Twin Peaks. Let me tell you this, the view was absolutely breathtaking. I uploaded a photo down below for you all to see!  (Image Information: personal image of the mountains at
