Learning Challenge: Pomodoro Technique Check-In #2

Image
Tomato Timer. Source: F lickr . I have not been using this technique this past week, but I would like to go back to using it because it kept me really focused. I have the tendency of studying for long periods of time and it is a habit I have had since middle school. I would like to change this habit, so I could retain more information I am studying. I am going to try to start using this technique more often and use blogger to keep track of how I am doing.

Growth Mindset: Random Cats

Image
To grow, you need constructive criticism. To be quite honest, I picked out this picture because the cats are really cute in them! However, I do agree with the caption on the picture. When receiving feedback from others, I prefer constructive criticism because it helps me improve. I don't like it when people give back negative feedback because it makes me feel terrible about my work. Stay creative: try some coffee. Who doesn't love coffee? I mean, coffee can be bad for you but it is something I can definitely not give up. When I need to get stuff done, I drink a cup of coffee and get going with completely my work.

Bhima and Hidimba "Now there lived in the forest on a shala  tree a ferocious rakshasa named Hidimba . He was of grim visage and terrible to behold; his eyes were red, and he was red-haired and red-bearded; his cheeks were of cloud color and his mouth was large, with long, sharp-pointed teeth which gleamed in darkness; his ears were shaped like to arrows; his neck was broad as a tree, his belly was large, and his legs were of great length." I really liked how this part of the story was very descriptive Bhima and Baka The townspeople in Ekachakra is controlled by  Baka Baka makes sure the people are protected from the enemies; however, to pay him back, the townspeople have to send him a cartful of rice, two buffalos, and a man or woman from one the townspeople's house every week If the house who is in charge of fulfilling the Baka's order failed to complete their duty, he comes to their house and devours every member in that house Bhima comes to the town

Week 6 Story: The Crane and the Weather Girl

Image
The crane and the fish. Source: Pixnio . "Reporting to you live from the weather channel," said the weather girl, "The temperature today has reached an all-time high causing a drought that is decreasing the water levels faster than you have ever seen before. The heat is not the only thing affecting the water levels, the lack of rainfall has been doing some damage as well. There has not been a single drop of rain in the past few months to put it in perspective. This drought is unreal if you are asking me! It seems like the scorching, hot weather may lead to death of the animals that live in the water. Let's check out the bodies of water and see how they are doing today." The weather girl heads over to a small pond and noticed a significant reduction of the water. Due to low water levels, madness starts to abrupt from within the lake community. The fish start to stress out because their life is literally on the line if the water completely dries out.

Vyasa and Ganesha Uparichara (king of Chedi) was feared for robbing gods of their power; therefore, they sent Indra to bribe him with a crystal car that has the ability to carry him in the sky However, while he was flying through the sky, his semen dropped into a river and was ingested by a female fish who was later caught by a fisherman After the fisherman caught the female fish, a girl and boy came forth The fisherman told the king about his find and the king took the boy in his possession and left the girl to be nurtured by the fisherman's wife The girl, Satyavati is beautiful person but she had an odd, fishy smell to her Because of her beauty, she was persuaded by the rishi   Parashara to keep her virginity, and in return, she wanted him to get rid of her fishy smell  The rishi lived up to her condition and she became so sweet-smelling that it could be smelled from miles away King Shantanu and Ganga King Shantanu  was walking by the Ganges river when he came a

Nothing related to my post but corgis make me happy. Source:  Pixabay . This past two weeks has not been the greatest for me because I have been dealing with personal problems outside of school. However, on top of that, I have been getting behind in school as well. This isn't the best time to get off track because I am striving for a 4.0 GPA this semester. I took my first microbiology exam a few weeks ago and I just received the exam score. I did okay on it and could have done a lot better if I studied before hand, so that was on me. I also took my first organic chemistry exam last week and that did not go well at all. I studied the old exams and thought I knew the material; however, the professor decided to change up the format of her exam and caught me off guard. Again, I should have prepared myself more for these exams. Microbiology lab is fun; however, it is very tedious with all the lab write-ups you have to do. I am doing okay in lab! I could be doing better, though. An

Learning Challenge: Pomodoro Technique Check-in #1

Image
Source: Flickr I have been trying the pomodoro technique to help me retain information better and keep me on track with school work. I really like this technique because it allows me to study for 25 minutes and then I get a short, five minute break before I go back to studying. So far, this technique has proven its worth to me and I will continue to use it because it is helping me maintain focus more. I would definitely recommend this technique to anyone who is struggling with studying!

Growth Mindset: Random Cats

Source:  Stay focused! The first image I chose is a cat staying focused on a squirrel. I picked out this image because I have difficulties with staying focused, especially on my school work. My phone and friends are my biggest distractions and I am trying to limit getting off track this school semester. However, this school semester hasn't been the great because I have personal things to deal with and it has been taking a tool on my health. I am trying my best to stay focused though! I have been putting my phone aside when I need to do assignments and trying the pomodoro technique to as well. Source: I have control. The second image I chose relates to the first one because I don't have control sometimes. I know I need to get everything done before focusing on other things but everything that surrounds me, tempts me. I really need to learn how to have some self-control this semester and also learn how to say no!

Kumbhakarna Rakshasas are a scary creature, but have you heard of Kumbhakarna ? Kumbhakarna is the ultimate demon who devoured human beings left and right. However, Brahma demanded that he would be asleep for six months and be awake for only a day. Every time that day comes, he would eat a meal and food coma.  One day, Kumbhakarna wakes up but not to loud noises or being trampled over but to beautiful women caressing him.  This is interesting because he woke up before he hit the six months mark. Ravana and Lakshmana Ravana and Lakshmana battle it out. Ravana threw a dart and punctured Lakshmana's heart. Lakshmana dies right then and there, but wait! Hanuman comes in to revive him with some healing herbs.  Lakshmana comes back much more powerful.  I might take some parts of this story and change it up a little bit to make it my own.  Valmiki's Hermitage Sita is sent into exile by Rama and gives birth to two sons, named Lava and Kusha. Rama eventually enc

King Sugriva "Tears of love the tender Tara on her slaughtered hero shed; E'en Sugriva's bosom melted when he saw his brother dead," "Hanuman of sun-like radiance, lofty as a hill of gold, clasped his hands in due obeisance, spake in accents calm and bold." I really liked how the two lines above were worded. Hanuman in Lanka Hanuman promises Rama that he will find Sita. This is the first time he is searching for in Lanka Hanuman finds Ravana sleeping but Sita was nowhere to be found He wanders far and wide, and he still can't find Sita The Ashoka Grove After wandering to Ashoka Grove, Hanuman finally finds Sita Sita and Ravana Ravana finds Sita and asks for her hand in marriage Sita rejects him, which shows her loyalty towards Rama Hanuman and Sita Hanuman approaches Sita when it is the right time and she assumed that Ravana was taking on another form to trick her.  She got reassurance from the vanara spy who s

Stress. Source:  Pixabay Another week of school went by and I'm feeling drained yet again. This week was hectic for me and I didn't have time to do all of the assignments for this class, so here I am, making it up by doing majority of the extra credit assignments. This class isn't that stressful but I am currently putting in all of my worry towards my science classes. I have my first microbiology exam this Friday and I'm worried for it. I like the class but I prefer chemistry classes over biology. If you were wondering, I do like organic chemistry! I also like microbiology lab. It is very tedious at times, but overall, I enjoy all of the labs we have completed so far. I went to a party last weekend to relieve some stress that was built up from the beginning of this semester and it was nice being stress-free and just having fun with my friends! I can't want for another party honestly. Also, ever since school started, I have not been able to see my boyfriend. I

Learning Challenge: Pomodoro Technique

Image
Pomodoro Technique. Source:  Flickr . I have heard about this technique before and it has worked well for all of my friends. For me personally, I think it is an okay technique. Maybe I need to give it a try again this semester and keep up with how well it works in this class. I will try my best to do this extra credit assignment every week to see if I had made any progress with this technique.  When I study, I don't like to stay on one topic for that long; I like to switch subjects every now and then. Hopefully, this technique can help me stay on one subject especially if an exam is coming up. I also like to study in long periods before taking a break, which is bad since I'm not giving my brain a break. I am sure this technique could be helpful but we shall see at the end of this semester.

Growth Mindset: Random Cats

Source:  There are many paths to success. I chose the picture of this cat because the saying on the picture is true. If you don't succeed the first time, you take a different route and try to figure it out from there. If that doesn't work out, then you try another route until make it. Source:  Mistakes lead to learning. I chose this picture because I tend to make mistakes often. Sometimes I learn from them, sometimes I don't.  I mean, I usually learn if I keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I'm just slow learner at times!

Rama's Exile This part of the story stood out the most to me due to the courageous act done by Rama's brother, Lakshmana , and his wife, Sita .  Rama  was sent into exile for a very long period of time and his brother and his wife still insisted on going with him. They are both very strong for stepping up and not letting Rama go by himself. Ravana and Maricha In this part of the story, Ravana wanted to abduct Sita and asked for help from his uncle, Maricha. However, his uncle did not to participate in his plans, which caused madness to abrupt. Ravana was upset, so Maricha decided to help and concealed himself as a golden deer. By doing so, this caught the attention of Sita. Sita wanted the golden deer so badly and kept begging Rama to capture it for her, but she did not know what was coming for her. Rama eventually captured the deer, but he killed it and caused Maricha to used Rama's voice as a call for help. This caused Sita to be worrisome and made Lakshmana go afte

Visual Representation of me Everyday.  Source . To be quite honest, I felt like the second week of school was the longest and everything had to go wrong! Let me explain to you all what happened last week. Sunday night, I was super tired and I basically fell asleep without plugging my charger in my phone. The next morning, I woke up at 11:30 AM and missed both of my classes. Do you know what else happened? There were clicker questions in the classes that I missed! Later that night, I went to a mixer event with my brother fraternity and we had a water balloon fight. Guess what happened. I got smacked in the face with a water balloon and it hurt so much. On Wednesday, I have school from 9:30 AM until 4:20 PM, then right after, I had to go work. I work as a server, and that day, I kept messing up my customers order, so that affected my tips. Maybe it was because I am currently sleep deprived or it just wasn't my day. I thought I could sleep in on Thursday but I realized I had an

Feedback Thoughts

Image
Rejection. Source:  Max Pixel Why rejection hurts so much -- and what to do about it This article stood out to me the most because I have a fear of rejection. I hate getting rejected so much that I try my best to avoid it. I now understand why I have such a strong feeling towards its after reading the article linked above. When we get rejected, even the slightest rejection triggers the area of our brain where we experience physical pain. This explains why rejection hurts so much. Although rejection cannot be avoided, there are ways to reduce the pain by responding to it in a better way. Three ways to do this is by being less self-critical, knowing your self-worth, and using your social connections to boost yourself. This can be used towards feedback in school, work, etc. Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt in Creative Work There are seven ways to alleviate self-doubt in your work! The article linked above states them as: "1. Don't Compare Yourself to Others, 2.

Topic Brainstorm

Image
Taj Mahal. Source:  Flickr Food This is the first topic that caught my eye when I went through the project topic listings. I am a big foodie and I literally cannot live without food. I expressed this before in one of my previous posts and I am going to do it again here! I would like to learn more about food in India and all of the spices they use to make curry due to a show I am watching right now. The show is called Shokugeki No Soma  and it is about cooking competitions amongst students at the academy. I want to tell stories about food and possibly rewrite stories from the show I am watching. Traveling India Another potential topic that I might write a story over is traveling India. I love traveling and take every opportunity I get to travel. I have not traveled to many other countries but it is one thing I would like to do when I have the time and money. I have only traveled to six other states and two countries in my entire life time, which isn't a lot. However, I wo
