Growth Mindset: Random Cats

WAKE UP: make your dreams come true. I am a big dreamer and I know it takes a long time to achieve your dreams and goals, but I have the tendency of giving up when life gets hard. I should stop dreaming and do something about it to make it come true. Stay focused and pay attention. I have a hard time paying attention, especially in class. I get distracted super easily and not really sure how to stay focused. My attention span is really short but I am trying to figure out what to do to expand my attention span.

I'm learning as I go. I learn new things constantly. I believe these two pictures go hand in hand, which is why I chose them. I am constantly learning new things everyday. I don't think there's a day in life where we don't learn as least one thing. It can be about anything whether it is in school or you're learning something about someone. There's endless possibilities of learning new things.

Let the stress energize you. This picture represents me because I work better under stress and this is probably why I procrastinate so often. To respond to the stress, I complete everything that stresses me out in that moment to relieve it. Sometimes, being wrong is the only way we can learn. As for this picture, I hate being wrong and I am very stubborn in arguments. I won't back down until I am right. And it sucks because I know I am in the wrong sometimes. It is true that we learn from our mistakes and being wrong; it just sucks sometimes.

Now is the time to go beyond your comfort zone. I chose this picture because I don't like going out of my comfort zone to do things. I am trying to break out of my shell and try new things, but I am honestly so complacent and it sucks sometimes . because I am not adventurous. Look for opportunity. I chose this picture because I come across many opportunities but I never take them. It sucks to say that because I am applying for PA school in a year and I need to shadow and get my hands on . experience hours in to even get a chance to get accepted into a program.

Dream big... and dare to fail. This represents me because I set big goals and always fail to achieve them. I noticed that if I set smaller goals and take baby steps to reaching the big end goal, I am able to achieve them a lot easier. I feel like this applies to many people as well.  Connect with others to reduce stress. Personally, I like telling people about my stresses, but at the same time I don't as well. I work better when I am under stress and telling people about my stress helps. However, I'm not going to get anywhere if I don't stop yapping my mouth and actually doing something to relieve the stress.

Just do it! Confidence will follow. I chose this picture because I don't have confidence in my work, which is why I am scared to complete them sometimes, especially with the storytelling assignment. However, after my first story, I received positive feedback, which made me feel good about myself! This helped me build up my confidence to write more stories. Review your work. This picture hit me hard because I overlook small mistakes all the time. I try my best to read my work out loud but then I catch myself reading it in my head. I am trying to get into the habit of reading my work out loud and hopefully, it will show in my future stories.

Being different can give you power. Growing up, I personally thought I was different from everyone because of my race. Going to a predominantly white school did not help with that but I overcame the culture difference by embracing my culture and educating others about it as well. To this day, I am glad that I am Asian and different from everyone else. We all struggle. I chose this cat picture because I struggle every single day. I am struggling to catch up in this class but I am slowly making progress! I feel like without struggle, you cannot get anywhere in life. So thank goodness I struggle quite often.

To grow, you need constructive criticism. To be quite honest, I picked out this picture because the cats are really cute in them! However, I do agree with the caption on the picture. When receiving feedback from others, I prefer constructive criticism because it helps me improve. I don't like it when people give back negative feedback because it makes me feel terrible about my work. Stay creative: try some coffee. Who doesn't love coffee? I mean, coffee can be bad for you but it is something I can definitely not give up. When I need to get stuff done, I drink a cup of coffee and get going with completely my work.

Source:  Stay focused! The first image I chose is a cat staying focused on a squirrel. I picked out this image because I have difficulties with staying focused, especially on my school work. My phone and friends are my biggest distractions and I am trying to limit getting off track this school semester. However, this school semester hasn't been the great because I have personal things to deal with and it has been taking a tool on my health. I am trying my best to stay focused though! I have been putting my phone aside when I need to do assignments and trying the pomodoro technique to as well. Source: I have control. The second image I chose relates to the first one because I don't have control sometimes. I know I need to get everything done before focusing on other things but everything that surrounds me, tempts me. I really need to learn how to have some self-control this semester and also learn how to say no!

Source:  There are many paths to success. I chose the picture of this cat because the saying on the picture is true. If you don't succeed the first time, you take a different route and try to figure it out from there. If that doesn't work out, then you try another route until make it. Source:  Mistakes lead to learning. I chose this picture because I tend to make mistakes often. Sometimes I learn from them, sometimes I don't.  I mean, I usually learn if I keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I'm just slow learner at times!

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset

Image
(Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset. Web source:  Flickr ) I have heard about growth mindset before this class and I have always felt very indifferent about it. I still do but I might change my opinion after this semester, so we will see! Academic wise, sometimes I work hard but my efforts are never seen and it saddens me because I put so much work into it and get nothing out. Maybe I just need to try harder, who knows? However, when I did cross country and kept pushing myself, I saw major improvements. There are other instances where I either improved or saw no change; therefore, I have never felt one way or the other about growth mindset. Someone please change my opinion! I would love to learn more about this topic this semester!
